Sariu
Privacybeleid
Laatst bijgewerkt: 6 oktober 2026
Back-up
Privacy policy
Last updated: 6 October 2026
Sariu is an app by Mayka Software (“we”). For privacy questions, write to privacy@sariu.app.
In short
- You don’t need an account. We don’t know who you are.
- Everything you enter and do in the app stays on your own phone. We don’t receive it.
- The app contains no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
What the app keeps on your phone
- Your answers about yourself, if you give them: gender, age group, relationship, family and situation (such as student or working). Every question can be skipped. A profile under 13 is not asked about relationship, family or situation.
- The “Excused from prayer and fasting” switch, if you turn it on.
- Your progress: which challenges, loops, journeys and adhkar you did, your badges and your streak.
- Your settings: language, favourite themes, reminders, Hijri correction and reading settings.
Some of this says something about your religion and, with the switch, your health. These are special categories of personal data. That is why they stay on your phone: we do not process them and cannot see them.
Backup
Your phone may include the app’s data in the backup you set up yourself: your Google account backup on Android, iCloud on iPhone. That way your progress and settings return on a new phone. Google and Apple run that backup under their own terms; we have no access to it. You can turn the backup off in your phone’s settings. Downloaded content (challenges and texts) is not included in the backup.
Internet
All challenges, texts and translations are inside the app itself, so it works without internet. When you open the app, it checks at most once a day whether there is new content (challenges, texts, translations, moon-sighting dates) and, if so, downloads it from content.sariu.app. Those files are hosted by Cloudflare. The app sends nothing about you or what you do in the app: it only asks for the same public files everyone gets.
Like any website, Cloudflare’s server sees your IP address and technical details such as the time and the type of connection when the app makes such a request. Cloudflare uses these details to deliver and secure the service and keeps them for a limited time, under Cloudflare’s privacy policy. We see at most totals (such as the number of requests), keep no log ourselves and do not use these details to identify you.
Otherwise the app only goes online when you make a contribution, through Google Play or the App Store (see below).
Reminders
Reminders are scheduled on your phone itself; nothing goes to a server for them. The app only asks permission for notifications when you turn a reminder on.
Contributions
You can support the developer with a contribution. Payment runs entirely through Google Play or the App Store; we receive no payment details, name or e-mail address, only anonymous purchase data from the store, such as the amount and the country. On Android the app uses Google’s billing library for this, which may send technical details about the purchase to Google, under Google’s privacy policy. A contribution is not sadaqah or a gift to charity and unlocks nothing in the app. On a profile under 13 the contribution buttons are behind a parental gate.
Children
Children can use the app, together with their parents. With a child’s profile too, everything stays on the phone and we collect nothing. A child gets challenges written for children.
Your rights
Because we hold no data about you, you don’t need to ask us to see or delete it: you manage it yourself. You delete it by changing your answers in the app, clearing the app’s data in your phone’s settings, or uninstalling the app (and, if you wish, the backup). For questions or complaints, write to privacy@sariu.app. You may also complain to your data protection authority (in the Netherlands: Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Changes
If this policy changes, we publish the new version here with a new date. If the app ever processes data outside your phone (for example with an account), we will ask for your consent in the app first.
